An ESO is a fully qualified emergency response and / or medical professional who works in a variety of industries including maritime, power and mining, defence, aviation, construction and other resource sectors. This is a multi-skilled role covering security, fire, rescue and medical. Training can also form part of an ESO’s responsibility. ESO’s generally work in teams comprising 2 to 4 operators on 12 hour shifts. Service provision is generally 24/7 365 days a year.
Salary packages range from $70,000 to $150,000 depending on location, company, role and experience.
The role ensures that the facility is maintained in a state of emergency response operational readiness and to facilitate a safe and secure environment for all staff, guests, contractors and visitors.
ESO’s have expertise in industrial fire, rescue and emergency operational concepts, procedures and systems. They have exceptional communication and organisational skills. They are team players and are highly disciplined.
They usually possess Certificate II in Public Safety (Fire and Emergency Operations) or Certificate III in Public Safety (Fire Fighting / Emergency Operations) or similar.

Additional site or state specific qualifications may be required including security licence (security guard / crowd controller), medium / heavy driver’s licence and undertake road crash rescue.
ESO rosters range from 4 on 4 off or 8 on 8 off. Roles can be fly in fly out program (FIFO), live on site or nearby, remote based or located within 1-2 hours’ drive of major cities.
Employment positions can either be casual, part time or full time.
